Treasury Proposes New Rules for Investment Advisors

Author:

On 8-25-15, Joel Schectman wrote in the Wall Street Journal’s Risk and Compliance Journal about Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FINCen) proposed rule which would require advisers with assets of more than $100 million to adopt many of the requirements in force for banks.

“Investment advisers are on the front lines of a multi-trillion-dollar sector of our financial system,” said FinCEN Director Jennifer Shasky Calvery in a statement. “If a client is trying to move or stash dirty money, we need investment advisers to be vigilant in protecting the integrity of their sector.”

Seetha Ramachandran, an attorney with Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP, says while many hedge funds already follow AML best practices, the new reporting requirements will be costly.

China dumping U.S. Treasurys?

Author:

Matt Clinch discussed on 8-28-15 on CNBC China’s acceleration in the selling of its dollar-denominated debt reserves.

China is the biggest holder of reserve assets in the world, holding a combination of bonds, currencies and commodities like gold. It held $1,271 billion in U.S. Treasurys at the end of June, according to data from the Treasury Department.

Rabobank argued that Beijing’s selling of Treasurys probably reflected capital flight out of China, which would push the yuan down. This in turn would reflect concern over the Chinese economy which would “very probably result in falling inflation expectations globally.”

Boltr Service Robot Rolls Out in Aloft Hotels

Author:

Aloft Hotels, owned by Starwoord Hotels and Resorts  https://www.nyse.com/quote/XNYS:HOT, has rolled out Boltr or SaviOne by Savioke.   Savioke is a venture start up with $2 million in capital, one of the funders  is Google.  The SaviOne complements Aloft’s model which they brand as contemporary and innovative hotel chain.

I can see a lot of options for robots like this in hospitals, offices and in warehouses.  Not sure about the R2D2 sounds and the anthropomorphic dots for eyes.  I wonder if their VOC list as a high priority those features or if they are just traits of over processing.
